How to Choose Profitable Blogging Niche in 2021
2021 is almost here and in this post, we will talk about how to choose profitable blogging niche for the coming year.
Choosing a blogging niche important to have a blogging goal for your blog. It is important to know your focus before you even start blogging.
Without the focus, your energy for blogging will go astray making it good for nothing. So, where is your focus?
Let us begin by placing us in the place of visitors. Suppose I am a busy mom who needs some guidance to choose the best day-care for my son.
Now, will I look for it in a blog where the blogger shares how to choose different recipes for school tiffin?
Obviously not. I will search for a blog where the blogger exclusively writes about how to choose the best day-care for kids.
The blogger here knows her focus and that is why she is getting visitors who are searching online for tips on day-care.
Likewise, you must know your focus and expertise before you choose a blog topic.
How to choose a profitable blogging niche?
You may know about several topics but for blogging, the narrower your focus the wider is the audience. People will come back to you once they know that you offer particular expertise on a topic.
A profitable blogging niche should have the following aspects:
- You know the topic thoroughly. Knowledge is everything in choosing a blogging niche.
- You must be passionate about the blogging niche you have chosen for the blog. It must inspire you to do lots of things in your blog.
- You must read and research a lot before you choose the niche. There is no point of running a blog on fashion just because it shows how fashionable you are unless you know what the global fashion trends are.
- Choose a blogging niche which is acceptable to everyone. In simple words, choose something that people search over the internet. Successful blogs are made by both bloggers and visitors.
- There is enough competition in the topic to make it blog-worthy.
- There is a scope of monetization in your blogging niche.
Your formula to define the focus or niche of your blog
Here is a perfect way to determine your niche. Look at the diagram below.
A good blogging niche combines your passion and your skill. When you combine your skill with your passion, it will give you the upper hand in successful blogging.
Do not worry if you have no idea what you are going to choose to start with.
Luckily, when you start blogging and get a response, your audience would ask you questions in the comments. These questions, these comments help in defining your niche and making your focus clear in your blogging journey.
It is also ok to have two different interests. Focus on your intuition here. What do you enjoy blogging about the most?
Start with writing about both your interests. It is okay to start with a lot of topics. I certainly did that and lots of people I know also started with many topics.
But as you grow as a blogger and your audience starts responding, concentrate on the topics your readers love.
Increase your focus on what you love to write and what seems to get the most engagement from your audience and what people really need.
Keep in mind there are two types of blogging niches: topic niche and the demographic niche.
Bloggers often forget about the demography of their audience. But like any online business, blogging business also needs the demographic of the readers.
The topic niche can be easy to choose based on what you are passionate about and what your potential audience wants to read.
For example, you write about food. You blog about the recipes you love and cook for your family. You are writing about your cuisine and that is your focus.
But who is reading your recipes? Would-be brides? Married people? People who are going abroad for studies or job? Or people who have just started learning cooking?
This focus on your readers is all about the demography of them. It is called the demographic approach to your niche selection and is important to define if you are going to grow your blog into a business.
For a demographic niche, you often have different topics that you are talking about on your blog, but they are all related to one specific type of person.
The demography of the niche is also important in monetizing your blog. The buying capacity of the readers usually directly affect affiliate income and clicking the products you sponsor on the blog.
For example, for my blog, my readers are basically from India and UK (crazy, right?). They loved to read about affiliate marketing and productivity tips. They are from the 35–44 age group and either want to start a side income or on a career break.
So, although I write about multiple topics like blogging, affiliate marketing, SEO and productivity, these topics are related and serve my audience. I have also interest in these topics myself and willing to read and research them every day.
If you have read my blogs, you may notice that I use a tone which is reserved for my friends. I speak to my readers as a single friend. I love imaging a conversation between two of us and solving questions regarding the topic.
But how to find this target audience?
The answer is simple. Spend time in niche specific Facebook groups. Take part in group discussions and keep an eye on what type of people are responding to your niche topic.
You will get the idea.
Check Google Analytics regularly. It will also give you the clearest picture of your readers, where they live, what posts are they reading more and how much time they are spending reading your blog.
Now, what if you still get trouble with selecting a blogging niche?
It is really tough to select a niche when you are multi-passionate. As I said, start with writing all your passions. Just keep the related topics minimal so that your primary focus of the blog is clear for your audience.
